Our Benevolence Fund exists to help those who find themselves in unexpected need for some assistance and wisdom to move forward in life. We see this as an expression of obedience to 1 John 3:17 (among other verses): But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him?
It’s been a long while since we’ve taken a Benevolence Offering — some of that is because you have helped minister directly to those in need in the body. Another reason is that we were still working off of the previous generosity of the church’s giving.
We have reached the point where we need to restock our Benevolence Fund in order to sufficiently help in times of need. We want you to view this giving as an opportunity above and beyond what you give to support the broad ministries of the church – an extra offering of love toward your brothers and sisters in the Lord!
Let me encourage you — most of us have more than we “need”. If you have an abundance, “14 your abundance at the present time should supply their need, so that their abundance may supply your need, that there may be fairness. 15 As it is written, “Whoever gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever gathered little had no lack.”
Even now, we’re asking you to consider putting aside a little bit to contribute to this offering so you will have a part to play in helping those who are in need. Every bit will help. God will use your faith and your funds to spread the joy of treasuring Christ — thanks.
