Praise and Thanksgiving

Colossians 3:12–17 — Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Praise you, Father, that you have chosen us, that we may be one body – holy and beloved in Christ! Thank you that we have the peace of Jesus which can rule in our hearts (which is like nothing the world can give), and the Word of Christ which can dwell in us and make us wise for salvation! Please produce in us more and more fruit by your Spirit – patience, kindness, love, joy and peace. Give us hearts of compassion as Jesus has – together with meekness, humility and patience. Give us grace to live together in perfect harmony and to be quick both to seek forgiveness and to forgive one another, just as we have been forgiven.

We want many others to know the blessings we have come to know as your children. Please hear our prayers this morning for this world, this land, this locality and this fellowship, and use them in your purposes to glorify your name in the extension of your kingdom!

Global Topics

50 years ago this weekend, man landed on the moon. It took every last bit of our technical ability to make this “giant leap” for mankind, and it was a huge accomplishment for sure. But in terms of even our solar system, let alone the galaxy and the universe, the distance traveled was tiny. Rather than puff ourselves up for what we have been able to do with the gifts you have given us, help us to be humbled that there is a Being who spoke the vastness of the heavens into being with a word! And help us to marvel that we may have a personal relationship with him, made possible by the sacrifice of his son!

National Topics

Our land is becoming more and more openly polarized and divided, characterized by fear and hatred. In these days, Father, please help your church to live out the gospel which breaks down walls of hostility faster than man can build them, and which is marked by a perfect love that drives out fear. By your grace, Lord, we in the church have the message that people desperately need to hear! The words of men can do nothing to help this land, but come down and glorify your name here through your church, as we proclaim your living and eternal word!

Local Topics
