Praise and Thanksgiving

Psalm 135:13–18: Your name, O Lord, endures forever, your renown, O Lord, throughout all ages. For the Lord will vindicate his people and have compassion on his servants. The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the work of human hands. They have mouths, but do not speak; they have eyes, but do not see; they have ears, but do not hear, nor is there any breath in their mouths. Those who make them become like them, so do all who trust in them.

Praise you, Father, that you vindicated your son when you raised him from the dead, and that in him you also vindicated (justified) us, your children, who have believed in him. You have been so gracious and compassionate to us, Lord! Those who do not know you are always blind slaves to powerless, useless idols (whether jobs, cars, houses, fame/popularity, beauty…) which can do no good but only harm to their souls. Forgive us, Lord, when we are tempted to go back to those idols to give us meaning and purpose, and help us to be single-minded in our devotion to you!

You have entrusted us with the gospel that gives life, liberty and joy to all who will believe. Make us useful to proclaim this good news and to strive through our prayers now to see your name exalted wherever it is preached.

Global Topics

For the first time, INDIA entered the top 10 on the 2019 World Watch List. Research indicates that in 2018, more than 12,000 attacks on Christians were reported (and many go unreported). In parts of India, it’s common for Christians to be cut off from water supplies and government-subsidized groceries. We pray for them today, and for our brothers and sisters who are struggling to feed their families because they’ve put their trust in Jesus.

National Topics

This land is aching for what only Christ in the gospel can give and trying to fill the gap with things that cannot satisfy. One indication of this is the fact that today is “American Family Day,” “National Friendship Day” and “National Sisters Day!” These reminders form an unconscious recognition that something is broken in us and in this world. In Christ alone there is adoption into an everlasting family and eternally satisfying relationships. Please turn us as a nation away from the emptiness of one-day encouragements to be what we cannot be without Christ, to life and fullness in him.

Local Topics

Whitton Ave Bible Church, Pastor: Chris Newkirk. For God to raise up disciplemakers through small groups, adult discipleship program and members classes. That the church would enjoy great grace and unity from Christ in every aspect of her life.

Fellowship Topics

1) Bless “Coffee with the Pastors” with your presence and grace this evening. 2) Please be present in our small group meetings this week and use them to make us grow closer to one another and closer to you. 3) Help us as a fellowship to hear what you have for us in your word this morning as Chris preaches, and to know in our hearts that Jesus is better than anything that this world can offer. Give us grace to re-dedicated ourselves fully to you now.
