Praise and Thanksgiving

2 Chronicles 7:12–15 — Then the LORD appeared to Solomon in the night and said to him: “I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for myself as a house of sacrifice. 13 When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command the locust to devour the land, or send pestilence among my people, 14 if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 15 Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place.

We worship you, our Father, that with you there is forgiveness, that you may be feared. Thank you for not dealing with us as our sins deserve but according to the riches of your grace. We are so grateful that you are patient and kind towards us for the sake of Jesus. Please show us our sin as we worship you today, Lord, and give us grace to turn from it – to cast it away from us and to draw near to you for fresh cleansing and restoration! Thank you for the promise that if we confess our sins, you are faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness

Hear us now, Father, and deal mercifully with us as we pray not just for ourselves but also for the success of your kingdom throughout this world!

Global Topics

Gillingham Baptist Church, UK (Pastor: Simon Chase). The fall program of activities is about to commence, providing opportunities for outreach and fellowship – Parents and Toddlers Group, Ladies’ Fellowship and Coffee Mornings. The church has been encouraged by the number of visitors in the summer and there is a positive feeling as a result. One young woman (Tina) continues to show signs of spiritual concern but doesn’t attend regularly – please open her heart to respond to the Gospel.

National Topics

Lord, you tell us in your Word that you turn the hearts of kings in whatever way you will, and that every authority that exists has been instituted by you. Please let us be governed at all levels by leaders who are godly and who are seeking your honor and glory. Turn hearts back to you, Lord, where they are more interested in self promotion. Make our rulers more interested in making much of your name rather than making a name for themselves. May you and your Word take center stage in the government of this land!

Local Topics

Crosspointe Church, pastors Robbie Glazner, Tim Terpstra. For spiritual fruit from God-given opportunities to share the gospel, including with those who visit the church.

Fellowship Topics

Make us a people who keep short accounts with you and with each other. Help us to have the love that covers a multitude of sins and the grace beyond that to repent and seek forgiveness from each other. May we not harbor grudges and nurture bitterness within your body. Bless the children’s ministry training at lunchtime today and make that work more and more effective in the hearts of our children. Please also bless the Women’s ministry breakfast on Saturday and the study this fall in the letter to Titus. Finally, speak to us again this morning through your Word. May we not hold it at arm’s length but rather feel the convicting, cleansing and healing work of your Spirit in our hearts as you speak to us through its pages.
