Praise and Thanksgiving

Isaiah 61:1–3 — The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; 2 to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; 3 to grant to those who mourn in Zion— to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he may be glorified.

Praise you, our God, for the deliverance you have brought about for us, your children, in Jesus! We were dead and you made us alive, we were in darkness and you brought us into your marvelous light. We were slaves to sin and captives to Satan and you have set us free. When the situation was humanly hopeless, King Jesus crushed the head of our enemies and liberated us! And more – you have elevated us to be your sons and daughters and brought us to a place where we will reign forever with you in glory – free from sin and every other spot or blemish! Hallelujah, Lord God!

Hear us as we pray for your great name to gain the victory and set captives free as your gospel is proclaimed in all the world, in this nation, this locality and this church!

Global Topics

Gillingham Baptist Church in the UK (pastor, Simon Chase). Please bless the ministry and especially the evangelistic event on Friday 18th October, “Adam – man, myth or ape?”. Cause many to attend and be challenged and converted through the gospel! Also please bless our efforts to work more closely together as churches, so we may benefit mutually from this relationship.

National Topics

Make your children shine with the light of the gospel and draw many to that light in this land, Father, as hatred and corruption seem to be becoming the new standards for acceptable behavior and are daily modeled for us by leaders on all sides. Your works in the past show us that you can change hearts and turn whole nations from destructive paths to embrace a more Biblical worldview. Please do that again for us here, Lord.

Local Topics

We pray for Liz Beck and staff, and the work at Hope for Addiction. Please grant them wisdom and endurance as they disciple those rebuilding their lives in Christ from addiction. Grant growth in grace for the single moms being discipled. Move more churches to partner with H4A in their work. Please be at work to provide sufficient resources to sustain Freedom House as one center for this ministry.

Fellowship Topics

Thank you for all the ways you are blessing us as a fellowship at the moment! For being able to add 17 new members to the church today, for your presence in the ministry of your Word from the pulpit, the Community Groups, the men’s and women’s studies, the lunches, the children’s ministries, the faithfulness of those who set up and tear down week to week. Thank you that our labors in Christ are never in vain but that you have seen fit in so many ways to make us aware that you are with us! Please stay with us and make us more and more a fruitful community and a faithful presence. Speak to us now through your Word, Lord, and change us again to be more like Jesus!

Special thanks for being with our sister Jody Mooberry and her sister as Jody gave, and her sister received, a kidney this week. Thank you for the success so far of that procedure! May many be struck by the testimony offered to your grace in this situation. Grant speedy recovery and much gospel fruit from this event!
