Praise and Thanksgiving

And now we join another song, the song of the Psalmist in Psalm 115:1 who raises his voice in a chorus to proclaim: “Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!”

O LORD you are a God of steadfast love. It’s who you are. We love, here and there, in scraps of moments. Often forgetting to love. Sometimes remembering to love. But you love perpetually. In Christ you have pledged your covenant love to us. That love is loyal. It is unmerited. It’s Blood-bought. It is unchanging. It never waivers. Your love moves with purpose toward a goal. You love with a plan in mind. We see day by day moments. But you see the end from the beginning. We walk by faith, often blindly. But you orchestrate every means and every ends and the final goal of all things. Your love is steadfast love. Your love vindicates your own glory.

Global Topics

And so this morning we lift up this prayer to our triune God — Father, Son, and Spirit — eternal God, resolved with purpose for this creation. You’ve always had a plan. And we want to be used in your plan globally. We pray for frontier missions stretching to the outer reaches of remote places where the name of Christ has never been proclaimed, to villages where churches have never existed. Prepare the soil in these places. And work in the senders who will send missionaries here. And stir up longings and desires in the sent ones who you will send in due time. And right here at home we pray for Jayme Miller, who prepares for overseas missionary training. Continue to build our faith as we watch her take huge personal risks for the gospel, already. And build her faith for the bigger risks ahead.

National Topics

In our country we pray for more church planters. We need men, called by you to lead, men who have left behind the vanity of sinful pleasures in order to boldly proclaim the worth of Christ. We are desperately in need of more faithful churches, in this state and around the country. This nation needs to know you, the God of your word. We need disciples. Authentic Christ followers who are showing our neighbors that the Dow Jones Average is not our god and a political party is not our savior. Lives that proclaim: We serve a loyal God, steady in his covenant love.

Local Topics

And today we are honored to celebrate your unwavering love over Grace Church for a decade. A Christ-treasuring church is a miracle of your own making. Not to us, not to us, but you alone get every ounce of glory for what your steadfast love has done in our midst. We praise you because you never once abandoned this body. Our story is not over, because your steadfast love never ends for this body.

Fellowship Topics

Your love is on mission. And we want your mission to be our mission: To spread the joy of treasuring your Son in everything. Use us to this end. Bring non-Christians through the door. Grow the body. Show off your power in this place, in the next decade, in ways our minds cannot even imagine at the close of this first decade.

And so we pray. You are good. We’ve seen it. And we entrust our future to you. Your unmerited love stretches to the end. Better than wealth, better than popularity, better than relationships, better than anything this world offers — your steadfast love is better than life itself (Psalm 63:3). And so we proclaim with the Psalmist: “Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!”

In Jesus name we pray. Amen!
