Praise and Thanksgiving

Psalm 91:1–10 — He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” 3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. 4 He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. 5 You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6 nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday. 7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. 8 You will only look with your eyes and see the recompense of the wicked. 9 Because you have made the LORD your dwelling place— the Most High, who is my refuge— 10 no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent.

How blessed your children are, Lord! How blessed are those whose lives are hidden with Christ in You! No untimely accident or illness can afflict us! No temptation can assail us beyond what we are able to endure by your grace. Our sins, past, present and future, are washed away. You have guaranteed (and already prepared) a place for us in heaven. No power in heaven, on earth or in hell can separate us from your love to us in Jesus! If anyone should praise you, Father, surely it is us! Eternity will not be long enough!

As long as this age continues, the door is open for others to come under your shelter and your protection, so hear our prayers this morning and glorify your name in hearing and answering them, our loving Father!

Global Topics

Gillingham Baptist Church in the UK (pastor, Simon Chase and elder, John Blake). Please bless the ministry of this church in its rural setting. Make your word powerful to awake those who are asleep and alarm those who are apathetic about Christ. Thank you for blessing our early efforts to work more closely together as churches. Please give wisdom and grace so we may benefit increasingly from this relationship.

National Topics

It’s a tragedy that we have a day called “Thanksgiving” each year but the vast majority in this land, who have been blessed so richly, do not look to you as the giver of every good and perfect gift. Like 9 of the 10 lepers Jesus healed, they will not return to give you thanks for your blessings. Perhaps what they are most grateful for is time off work, the self indulgence of eating and drinking, and Black Friday to follow. Please have mercy this year, Father! Help us not to fall into this trap! Open the eyes of many to see how empty and unsatisfying these things are. Pour out your Spirit and save countless from this spiritual blindness, carelessness and apathy.

Local Topics

Grace Bible Church in Chandler – Senior Pastor Scott Maxwell. The Lord’s blessing on the gospel ministry of this fellowship – pour out your Spirit on them today in great power, Lord. Also, Jacob Hantla (an elder in the church) and others who are battling serious illness. Please send your healing and your peace.

Fellowship Topics

As your children, you tell us that we may know your love which surpasses knowledge, joy which is unspeakable and full of glory, and peace which surpasses all knowledge. These are fruits of your Spirit Lord, so please send us your Spirit and produce this fruit abundantly in us. Help us not to be content with what we have and what we know, when your word says they are available to us without limit! Help us not to try to store them up for future use, but be free and generous as your means to bring these blessings to others in the fellowship and to those who today know nothing of these things.

Warm our hearts with a fresh view of Christ this morning, Father, especially as your Word is preached. Help us to treasure Christ more because we have been here today!
