Praise and Thanksgiving

Isaiah 58:6–7 — “Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? 7 Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?

Father, you have been so kind and loving to us! You have loosed us from the bonds of slavery to sin, set us free from the oppression of the Evil One. You have shared the Bread of Life with us, and brought us, who were homeless, into your house and even into your family. You have covered our nakedness and (in Jesus) have become our own flesh and blood so that all these other blessings might flow to us. Bless you, our Father, for your heart of everlasting love towards us in Christ!

Lord, put it into our hearts to fast in the way you have chosen for us, and to walk in your footsteps of selfless love as the Servant King. Hear our prayers this morning and answer them according to the riches of your glory in Christ!

Global Topics

Father, we are on the threshold of another year, and you tell us in your Word that the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. Help us to “fast” in 2020 by using the weapons you have given us to set captives free, to bring those without God and without hope in the world to you. Help us to feed those who are spiritually starving and to bring the naked to you to be covered with your righteousness. Give us 20/20 vision for the plight of the lost and the power of the Gospel throughout the world, Lord!

National Topics

Lord, teach us as a nation to number our days so that we may get a heart of wisdom. Humble us and show us that the ball dropping in Times Square shouldn’t be marking the beginning of another year to serve ourselves and store up perishable and worthless things here on earth. Make us acutely aware that our lives here are not endless, and that when they end we will have to face you in judgment. Grant us to realize that without Jesus, to fall into your hands like this is a fearful thing, but that if we are in him, his perfect love drives out fear. Revive us in 2020, Father. for your glory!

We pray for Church on Mill, led by Chuck Newkirk. Grant power to him in ministry and help him in his fight with lupus. Make their ministry to the ASU campus globally effective, as those who come from overseas to study are saved and return to their homelands.

Fellowship Topics

We’re starting a new decade on the calendar and a new (second) decade in the life of our body here at Grace. Help us to make bigger strides as we walk with you this year, Lord. Help us not to be satisfied with where we are as believers, and how much we have learned of Christ so far. Dazzle us, Lord, with your glory and the realization of the inexhaustible ocean of your love that we can plunge into this side of heaven! Bless us and bless all our efforts for you. May Christ be lifted up in our midst at Grace Church, and many lost, hungry, homeless, oppressed and naked souls find their needs abundantly met in Jesus, through our ministry to them in this New Year! To this end. speak to us this morning through your Word as it is preached!
