Praise and Thanksgiving

Psalm 63:1–4 — O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. 2 So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory. 3 Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. 4 So I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands.

Father, we thank You; we praise You, for Your sovereignty. We can have confidence for the future because You tell us in Your Word that “The Lord is king forever and ever; the nations perish from (YOUR) his land. (Psalm 10:16)” But Father, we are frail creatures who groan, worry and fear because we do not fully understand who we serve. If we did understand, then we could live the abundant life that You intend. Help us Lord to trust You, depend on You, to fear You and You alone. Help us not to fear man, circumstances, or possible outcomes from threats and hatred, because we understand that You are in control. Father help our unbelief, and cause us to glorify You when You intervene for us, and remind us, constantly, of the numerous times that You have already delivered us from destruction.

Global Topics

Father, as we think about this broken world and all of the pain that mankind stirs up and we consider the hate and vitriol between nations, we pray for Your intervention. We now lift up Iran in prayer to You God. The tensions are high after the recent assassination of their most prominent military man by the US. They promise revenge and retaliation but Father You are sovereign over that. And although we pray for safety and security, that is not what You promise to us; rather we know that Your ways are not our ways, and we praise you for that. Father, our prayer this morning for Iran is for revival; a turning from Islam, to the one true God. We are praying for the church there to grow and thrive. Father wake them spiritually and make them a beacon for Your glory. And Father, replace any fear in us with trust in You.

National Topics

Father, here in the United States we find ourselves in a place of concern over the threats of retaliation and attacks on our troops that have already taken place. As believers we can still fight despair and anxiety as we consider our perceived and real vulnerabilities. Father, replace any fear in us with trust in You. You are sovereign over all nations, all leaders and all circumstances. Cause us to trust you God with the future and to be faithful, right where You have us. Let us take confidence from Your Word that You will provide; Proverbs 21:1 “The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will.”

Local Topics

Father, as we think about neighbor churches we lift up Cornerstone Church and pastor Doug Troyer. We pray for Your blessing and favor to be upon them this morning as they meet just down the road. We are grateful that we are not in competition with other Bible teaching churches but rather consider them partners in Christ. We pray that you would bless their ministries and efforts as they strive to reach the lost too in this city.

Fellowship Topics

Father we lift up Grace Church and our corporate fasting as a body. We are seeking for a spiritual hunger and thirst to grow so that Christ will fill it rather than whatever we have temporarily forsaken at this time. Father create in us the NEED for you, that David had, when he earnestly sought you because his soul thirsted and his flesh fainted for You. Father our souls are in a dry and barren land too, but we do not always recognize that because there are so many distractions. Father I pray for wisdom and discernment for us as we seek you through prayer and fasting. And may Grace Church be known for how we love each other and would You be glorified in us. AMEN
