Praise and Thanksgiving

Galatians 5:14 — For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

O Lord, you are worthy to be exalted and magnified and praised! Thank you that you have not dealt with us as our sins deserve but rather with patience and amazing grace. Thank you that you are to us a God who is near, and not a God far off. Thank you that you have come to “settle down” in the hearts of your people and that in them as the first of the fruits of the Spirit you are growing love! Help us to work with you so that we may love more, Lord. Help us as a congregation to be marked as your children because of the law-fulfilling love we have for each other, flowing out from the love for yourself that you have shed abroad in our hearts!

Cause us to hunger for you, Lord Jesus, and hear us now as we pray for the success of the gospel and the glory of your name in every place where you have sons and daughters who name the name of Jesus!

Global Topics

We pray for Europe this morning. First for the UK with all the uncertainty of their imminent departure from the European Union. Cause many to understand that it is foolish to put trust in men, however clever or talented they may be. Turn many to yourself, Lord. Be with our brothers and sisters at Gillingham Baptist Church and make their witness effective for you in this year of turmoil. Thank you for the visit to us of their pastor, Simon Chase. May he be rested and refreshed and may the bonds between us and our churches grow stronger for your glory!

National Topics

Thank you, Father, that there has been a pause in the escalation of tension between the US and Iran in this last week – in answer to our prayers. Please continue to give wisdom to all who are involved in this relationship over the next months and bring about peace. Thank you that your gospel is spreading in Iran. May the propsect of possible conflict drive many in the US to the Prince of Peace – turn this land to yourself in great power, Father!

Local Topics

We praise you, Father, that other churches around this city and state have been given the gospel and are seeking to glorify you. We pray for ‘The Way’ church and their efforts to reach our community with the gospel. We lift up Pastor Scott Gurley and the other Elders, that you would give them the skill to lead well. Please bless the “all church meeting” that is taking place next Sunday. Continue to help families who attend there to grow and mature in Christ.

Fellowship Topics

(1) We pray for Sean and Laura Campbell and bless you for the fellowship we have enjoyed with them and their family! Please be with them in their move to Germany. Help them to find fellowship there in a gospel church and open up ways in which they can continue to express their desire to see your kingdom come, and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Help them to join with others to bring light into the spiritual darkness in that country.
(2) And please bless us, Lord! You have been showing us at Grace that your love is infinite and that in the gospel we may understand its dimensions and know it, being filled with all the fullness of God! You have been challenging us to grow in our hunger for Christ and not to be satisfied with our spiritual condition. We want to be filled as full as possible with your fullness, Lord, and to fulfill the law by loving others with your love. Please be gracious to us, pour out your Spirit upon us and make us believe that in all our sorrows and victories, in our wealth or in poverty, in sickness and in health, Jesus is better, and that in Him there is an eternal weight of glory ahead that is beyond all comparison!
