Psalm 62:5–8 — For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. 6 He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. 7 On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God. 8 Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us.

Again we pray for our brothers and sisters abroad, asking that you would sustain them and cause them to be light in the darkness of global tragedy. We pray for Your church in wealthy countries, that they would be broken before You and able to direct others toward humility in the midst of suffering and fear. We pray for Your church in poor countries that they would be strengthened and bold in their witness, pointing to You as the only source of hope. Reveal Yourself to a shaken world that desperately needs to know that You are the only fortress and salvation. |

In our own country, our attention is captured by covid 19 outbreaks in places like New York, California, Washington, Detroit, Chicago and New Orleans. Give us empathy for those for whom this epidemic is real and imminent. Remind us as a nation of Your favor and make us thankful for the provisions and resources that we have. It is by Your grace and goodness that we experience blessing, let the backdrop of this tragedy illuminate Your loving kindness despite our rebellion. Lord, we ask that You sustain and protect the many medical personnel who are courageously serving our cities, fulfilling their responsibilities to care for the sick and to comfort the dying. Cause the Body of Christ to be equally courageous in taking on the spiritual responsibility of proclaiming the ultimate source of all care and comfort.
Give our leaders wisdom. Give our people courage. Protect us from our fears, turn us from our pride and pour out Your salvation in this time of trouble. |
