Praise and Thanksgiving

Psalm 46:1–3 — God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, 3 though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah

You, oh God, are our refuge and strength in all of life and for all times. Our shared trouble is present and real. In these times of trouble, we are reminded that Your help is very present. Cast away our fears as we are reminded this Palm Sunday of your triumph as King. Cause us to bask in Your beauty as an object of loving adoration. Teach us reverent submission as we gaze upon Your majesty. Fill us with joyous gratitude in Your presence – You are mighty and worthy to be praised.

Global Topics

O Lord, we are besieged with plague, pestilence and calamity. A plague of locusts is sweeping across East Africa and Pakistan, still growing, leaving a wake of destruction and uncertainty. Much of the world is focused on the pestilence of the corona virus. Sickness prevails and economies are teetering. We know that You use disaster to draw Your people to Yourself. Do that now. Give grace and strengthen Your people. Keep them from despair, enhance their witness and give them the skill and wisdom to model Your care and presence. We desire relief from pain and suffering for all peoples and all nations. But Lord, more so, we ask that You would use global crisis to bring these countries to their knees, that as a people, they would see that You are the triumphant King, Lord of all. Empower Your church to shout this good news in every land. Embolden them to point to You as the author of deliverance in every situation.

National Topics

In our own country, we see the “earth giving way and the mountains being thrown into the sea” in the form of pestilence and its myriad consequences. Replace our fear of discomfort and death with fear of You. Help us to use our national resources and our many blessings strategically. Help our country to discern what is sensational and what is real. We are an optimistic people. We are optimistic that our leaders will guide our country with skill. We are optimistic that our economy can withstand our current shut down. However, we acknowledge that our optimism is only real if it is grounded in You. Help us, Lord. Protect our nation from vanity and false hope. Give our leaders wisdom. Give our people sense. Shield us from our pride. Do all of this in the United States for Your glory.

Local Topics

Across Arizona, we join our fellow gospel preaching churches in celebrating Your triumphant arrival into Jerusalem. You are Lord and worthy to be exalted. Give us a united voice of reason and love as we are reminded that You rule over death and that Your resurrection is a secured victory for us all. Let this be a time of heightened anticipation for a joyful celebration of Your Resurrection.
