Grace Church AZ Prayer for Sunday, June 21, 2020

Praise and Thanksgiving

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 5:3-10

Oh Lord God make us poor in spirit. We were wretches lost in our sin but for your work of salvation. And you've promised the kingdom of heaven. We can't even conceive of the scope of gratitude we ought to feel. Yet we say thank you Father. We praise your name. Help us to mourn, make us meek, give us an earnest hunger and thirst for your righteousness. Lord we want to be more like your Son Jesus. Sanctify us and make us more like him. We want to be more like Christ.

Global Topics

Lord God, make your disciples around the globe merciful and pure in heart and peacemakers. The world needs your mercy. The world needs your peace. As the pandemic continues around the globe, now accompanied by riots and demonstrations, fear and doubt and uncertainty and job loss and even death travel with it. Raise up your church to share the truth of the gospel. Let your light shine in the darkness brought about by this virus. Lord convict people of the darkness in their own heart. Bring about many divine appointments for your people to point to the only salvation that matters.

National Topics

Lord God forgive our country. This week our country has walked further down the path of what stands in opposition to your created design of gender and sexuality. Lord God forgive us for keeping silent. Prompt us to speak up, in meekness and purity of heart, even if it means persecution. You promise us blessing for that persecution. Lord God give us faith to trust that the blessing of persecution for righteousness sake is more valuable than any earthly thing we may have. Embolden your church to stand for what is righteous and shine as light to this wayward country. Give your church grace to help those struggling with homosexuality and transgenderism and conviction to preach the freedom only available through Jesus Christ.

Local Topics

Here in the valley Lord as cases are rising and masks become mandatory, protect this city. Prevent the hospitals from becoming overburdened… strengthen our healthcare workers… protect the vulnerable and at-risk. Help us not to live in fear. You hold each of our lives in your hand and your Son Jesus Christ gives life everlasting to those who trust in Him. Help us to trust in that truth each day. Help each of us to live out that witness to those around us.

Fellowship Topics

We lift up the Willis family, and the Mishail family; give them healing from Covid19. Thank you that Ninos has been able to leave the hospital. Give them rest and recovery.

There are number of folks battling cancer in our church and in our families. Lord, give healing. Give the peace that only your gospel can bring.

Give us here at Grace Church unity in the gospel. Lord God as some of us meet here in person, somewhat awkwardly, and others who can't join in person do so online, continue to knit us together through the supernatural gift of your Spirit. Lord, don't let us stop meeting together. Keep us committed to doing church together… that is singing songs, extoling your name, hearing your Word preached and preaching it to each other, one-anothering as you have shown us.

Help us to remember your final beatitude… “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on your account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persected the prophets who were before you.” Embolden us to faithfully proclaim your gospel here in Peoria.
