Praise and Thanksgiving

Psalm 139:13–18 For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I would count them, they are more than the sand. I awake, and I am still with you.

We praise you Lord God that you know all of our days. You knit us together, you created us; it is only by your will and your goodness that we even draw breath! Let alone that we can gather with each other to praise your name. As the psalm says, wonderful are your works and how precious are your thoughts! Lord, thank you that in the sum of all of your creation and all the time you've set forth, you ordained this day and this morning for us to gather together in your name. Lord God, you are worthy! Jesus Christ our saviour, you are worthy!

Lord I lift up the Middle East to you today. Thank you for the peace you are establishing in that region. Thank you for the UAE and Israel and Bahrain coming together in peace. Thank you for the first commercial flights from Israel into these countries. Thank you for brining Arab Muslims together with the Israeli Jewish people. Lord God, broaden this work. Bring Saudi, and Oman, and Kuwait, and even Qatar and Yemen, into this fold. I pray Lord God that as this peace takes root, open doors for your people to cross the borders of these countries more freely. Shine the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ into these dark places. Lord there are so many Muslims in these countries who know Jesus merely as a prophet. Make ways for your people to share the good news of your Son, King of Kings and Savior, Jesus Christ!

Lord we pray for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Shine your light into their lives. Give them wisdom. Bless them as they run for elected office. May your will be done in the upcoming election Lord. Give each of us here discernment as we head to the voting booth.

Lord God, if we're honest, some of us only want to pray for two of these people… we can think one group of these people is the enemy. But you remind us to pray EVEN for our enemies. Lord God, help us to remember in these tumultuous, contentious times that our elected officials serve only according to your will. No election outcome is a suprise to you nor are they out of your control. Help us Lord to trust in you first! Help us to remember that our King is Jesus Christ and our earthly authorities are only temporary and fleeting.
