Grace Church AZ Prayer for Sunday, November 15, 2020

Psalm 8
O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger.

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?

Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Thank you Lord for the beautfiul and amazing work of your hands. From the saguaro cactuses of the Sonaran desert to the fresh mountain air up on the Rim to the innumerable stars in the night sky you have given us awe-inspiring works to admire all around us. And they point to you and your glory and majesty. We praise your name Lord God for your works! We thank you that not only are you mindful of us, but that you sent your Son as our saviour. Thank you Lord Jesus for your atoning work on the cross.

Lord we pray for Armenia and Azerbaijan today. Thank you for the apparent cease-fire in recent days. Lord help this peace to stick and the fighting to stop. Lord we pray that you'd shine the light of your gospel into this region. The Armenian Christians need revival. Father grow your church there. Open people's eyes to the joy of the gospel through your Word. Azerbaijani Muslims need to hear the truth of the gospel. Open their borders and their culture to the gospel. Lord, even use Armenian Christians to share the joy of Christ. Break down the generational pain in this region and bring lasting peace through your Son.

Lord help our own country. Divisiveness is on the rise. Marginalization of each other is on the rise as we turn every issue into an us-versus-them matter. Our politicans and media and social media only seem to want to foment more of it. Lord forgive us when we fall in to this divisiveness. Make us people of reconciliation, first to each other and then to those outside the church. Let your church here in America bring reconciliation. Give us wisdom in dealing with those outside the church and help our speech to always “be gracious” and “seasoned with salt”; to share your gospel that brings true reconciliation.

Father please help your faithful church in the Valley to spread that gospel here. We pray for The Redemption Churches, Redeeming Grace Church in Goodyear, Trinity Bible Church, Crossroads Church, Crosspoint Baptist, The Way Church, The Church on Mill and the many others faithfully working to make disciples in the Phoenix area. Lord strengthen and embolden their pastors and the teaching of your Word. Protect their elders from attacks from the evil one. Spur on their faithful members to love and good works. Give all of these churches unity through the work of your Son Jesus Christ.

And finally Lord, here at Grace Church, give us unity as we continue to meet together in person as well as virtually online. Lord we are weary of having to take all of these precautions. We are weary of masks. We are weary of being split up and having to refrain from simple hugs and handshakes and arms around the shoulder. In spite of all this we continue to meet together. Not by our own strength or our own rightesouness, but because you are worthy Lord God. Your Son Jesus Christ is worthy of our praise, even if our voices are masked and we are physically separated.

Lord give us extra grace through the teaching of your Word. Anoint our pastors, including Pastor Chris this morning, with discernment and wisdom that comes only from your Word. Work through them powerfully to change us Lord. Reform our hearts! Convict us of our sin. Redeem our lives that we may shine forth the gospel in our homes, our church, and our city. Make Grace Church a beacon of light, and hope, and reconciliation, and restoration here in Peoria.

Oh Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all of the earth! Amen.
