Eat Your Words
Pastor Jamie Self - 8/3/2025
This sermon explores Jeremiah 1 through the metaphor of feeding children—classifying people as "spitters," "chewers," or "eaters" of God's Word—to illustrate how individuals respond to God's truth. God calls Jeremiah to deliver His message to a rebellious people amid national upheaval, affirming that His Word is sovereign, powerful, and ultimately redemptive despite judgment. The call is clear: God’s Word must not only be heard but also consumed—believed, internalized, and lived out—resulting in transformation and spiritual nourishment.
Weekly Reflection
“God is standing over the chessboard of history—raising up and tearing down kingdoms—to deliver His Word to His people”
We all approach God’s Word in different ways. Some reject it outright (spitters), others appear interested but never let it shape them (chewers), and some receive it with faith and obedience (eaters). In Jeremiah 1, we see a prophet who ate the Word—he let it fill his soul, shape his calling, and direct his mission. This isn't just about Jeremiah; it’s about us. Will we let God's Word dwell richly in us—or will we resist the nourishment He offers?
