Bragging to Live

Pastor Jamie Self - 9/21/2025

Pastor Jamie Self powerfully contrasts worldly boasting with godly confidence, drawing from Jeremiah 9 and the story of David and Goliath to show that true life begins by boasting in the Lord alone. He explains that Israel’s downfall came from trusting in their own wisdom, strength, and riches rather than acknowledging and fearing God, which ultimately led to divine judgment and death. The sermon concludes by emphasizing that in Christ, believers receive wisdom, righteousness, and redemption—making Him the only worthy object of our boasting and the true source of life.

Weekly Reflection

“We should boast in God because nothing else matters.”
It is easy to find confidence in what we know, what we have built, or how strong we feel until life exposes how fragile those things really are. Jeremiah 9 warns that Israel’s downfall came from exactly that: boasting in wisdom, strength, and wealth instead of knowing and fearing the Lord. But boasting is not the problem. Boasting in the wrong things is. What you brag about reveals what your heart treasures. So what does your heart brag in?
