Putty in His Hands
Pastor Jamie Self - 9/28/2025
In “Putty in His Hands,” Pastor Jamie Self explores the image of the potter and clay in Jeremiah 18 to reveal God’s absolute sovereignty and authority over our lives. While God holds the power to shape, reform, and even destroy, His love and purpose in forming His people remain deeply rooted in His goodness and desire to bring life and mission. Our response, then, is not just to acknowledge His control but to joyfully submit our lives as living sacrifices, trusting the Potter’s craftsmanship.
Weekly Reflection
“The point is not, ‘Be patient, God’s still working on you.’ The point is: God has the right to break you and remake you. And He does it in love.”
God’s sovereignty is not a distant doctrine—it’s a present reality that presses into our resistance. In Jeremiah 18, we see the Potter reshaping marred clay, not discarding it. This image isn’t just about divine control; it’s a loving confrontation: will we remain moldable in His hands, or insist on shaping ourselves? The tension of submission is real—especially when we think our plans are better or our autonomy safer.
