Jesus & the Temple
Pastor Jamie Self - 12/28/2025
Jesus entered the world fully under the law to identify with those he came to redeem, fulfilling every requirement through his devout parents and his own spiritual awareness. The stories of Simeon and Anna reveal how God’s salvation leads to devoted worship and joyful recognition of the Messiah, even in humble circumstances. As Jesus matures, he demonstrates spiritual clarity and divine identity, showing that our calling is to engage the world with spiritual eyes, not worldly expectations.
Weekly Reflection
“Jesus brings the spiritual into the earthly so we can engage this world with spiritual eyes.”
Jesus walks into the temple under the law so that He can fulfill it. His circumcision, Mary’s purification, Simeon’s prophecy, and Anna’s devotion all declare one truth: the Son has come to redeem those enslaved to the elementary principles of the world. At twelve, He says what every adopted son can now say—“I must be in my Father’s house.” This passage calls us to examine how we interpret the world. Spiritual eyes are not symbolic. They are trained by the Spirit, fixed on Christ, and formed in obedience. Seeing with clarity always produces a response.
