Son of God's First Sermon

Pastor Jamie Self - 1/18/2026

Jesus’ first sermon in Luke 4:14–30 reveals Him as the Spirit-anointed Son of God who proclaims liberty, healing, and grace to the spiritually poor, blind, captive, and oppressed. The people of Nazareth rejected Him, failing to see beyond His humanity and missing the divine fulfillment standing before them. This message challenges believers to recognize their spiritual need, abandon pride, and receive the full, sustaining grace Jesus offers, not just spiritual “samples” of His work.

Weekly Reflection

“This isn’t a sample meatball. It’s not even a box in a case of meatballs in a warehouse. This is the Son of God—a lifetime supply of meatballs… divine meatballs that sustain you forever in the presence of God”
We often approach Jesus like Costco shoppers seeking a taste test—hoping for comfort, inspiration, or a little boost, without submitting to the fullness of who He is. Like the people of Nazareth, we risk missing the divine Son of God standing right in front of us when we cling to pride, familiarity, or spiritual self-sufficiency. Jesus proclaims liberty, healing, and grace to the poor in spirit, to those who know they have nothing to lose. Do you come to Him for a sample, or for the sustaining life only He can give?
