Living for Eternity

Pastor Jamie Self - 4/12/2026

In this message, we’re looking at 2 Corinthians 4 and the staggering reality of what it means to be a Christian. It’s easy to look at people laboring for the gospel in hard places and think they’re a different species of "super saint," but the truth is much simpler: they are fragile, breakable jars of clay filled with an infinite treasure. That treasure is the "light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ." When God flips the light switch in our hearts, everything changes. We stop playing it safe with our lives because we’ve been dazzled by God.

Weekly Reflection

“The gap between her life and a comfortable, self-protected life is not a gap of personality... it’s a gap of vision. It's a question of what we actually see when we look to God.”
We often think that missionaries or "super saints" are a different species of Christian, but the truth is they are just fragile "jars of clay" filled with the same treasure we possess. That treasure is the light of the gospel—the glory of God seen in the face of Jesus Christ. When God "flips the switch" in our hearts, our vision changes. We begin to see God for who He actually is, which dazzles us into a commitment that far outweighs our desire for comfort. This perspective transforms how we view our lives. Our "light and momentary afflictions" are no longer just obstacles; they are a curriculum preparing us for an "eternal weight of glory". When we are dazzled by God, we no longer play it safe. Whether we are called to cross an ocean or simply cross the street, we speak because we believe.

This Week’s Challenge:
The "Dazzle" Diagnostic: What comes into your mind when you think about God? Does the thought of Him dazzle you, or has He become a routine part of a "religious rut"? Action: Take ten minutes this week to simply gaze at God rather than performing for Him or asking things of Him. Read Psalm 27 slowly and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the "beauty of the Lord" to you in a way that makes the distractions of this world grow dim.
