Pastor Jamie explores why Jesus refuses to answer the Pharisees' question about when the kingdom is coming, showing instead that the kingdom is already standing in their midst in the person of the King himself. Using the days of Noah and Lot as pictures of readiness, he argues that being ready isn't a performance or a checklist, but a matter of being placed somewhere safe, the same way Noah was carried inside the ark and Lot was pulled out of Sodom. The sermon turns on Jesus' warning to remember Lot's wife, who looked back because her heart, not her theology, betrayed what she truly treasured, and it asks listeners to consider what in their own lives they would turn back for. In the end, readiness is found only in the Son of Man, who had to suffer, be rejected, and die so that everyone who believes in him could be carried into that same safe place.

This week Pastor Jamie preached from Luke 17 on a question every believer eventually asks: how do I know I'm ready? His answer cut straight through our checklists. "It's not a technique to get ready. It's a description of what ready is.
Most of us measure our readiness by performance: how much we prayed this week, how patient we were with our kids, how good we felt walking out of church on Sunday. But Jesus points to something quieter and more searching, what we'd turn back into the house for. Lot's wife could have answered every doctrine question correctly and still looked back, because her heart was still tethered to what she was leaving behind. The real question isn't whether we know the right answers, it's whether our hearts have actually let go of what we're holding onto instead of Christ.
