Give Me More

Pastor Jamie Self - 9/20/2026

In Luke 19:11-27, Pastor Jamie Self walks through the parable of the ten minas and shows why Jesus told it to a crowd that expected the kingdom to appear immediately, giving us the gap we now live in between the King's crowning at the cross and his return. The mina is the gospel itself, and two servants trade openly with it in a city that rejected the king while a third wraps it in a handkerchief because he believed his master was severe. The question the parable leaves us with is who we really think Jesus is, and whether our lives will say "give me more" or "what can I get away with?"

Weekly Reflection

“The reward for serving the king is more of the king.”
Most of us would say without hesitation that Jesus is good. But when the calendar is full and obedience looks costly, what we do can tell a different story. Are we keeping the gospel safe and untouched, like a mina wrapped in a handkerchief, because somewhere deep down we think the King is severe? How would it change what we are willing to risk this week if we remembered that the mina was never ours, and that the One who gave it is generous?

This Week’s Challenge:
Pause and ask: Lately, is my life saying "give me more of you," or is it saying "what can I get away with?" Jamie challenged us to take the same busy schedule and use it to love other people. This week, put one person on your calendar, whether that's a meal at your table, a coffee, or a phone call, and ask how you can pray for them.
